Mon 29 March: National Intercentre Finals - Men's & Women's Day 2 [Rounds 4,5.] Final Results
Winners: Women's: Waikato (18 points) Men's: Manawatu (21 points)
A 50 - 50 return for the Men's team from their 6 matches today has earned them a more than creditable 2nd placing- to Manawatu- in this year's National Intercentre finals. For the Women though, just one win from the last two rounds, made it difficult to hold onto the position their very good results from Day 1 had earned them. A good effort all round, though, with both teams playing a very influential role in the overall competition, with their general standard of play and the very significant individual match results achieved. As usual - in this sort of competition - final standings can be so easily influenced by the slightest of margins and/or the roll of a bowl, whether in round 1 or round 5. Commendations to all who represented the Centre, so well.
Final Standings:
Women's: 1st: Waikato - 18; 2nd: Dunedin - 16; 3rd: Manawatu - 16; 4th: Northland - 14; 5th: Nelson - 14; 6th: Taranaki - 12 .
Men's: 1st: Manawatu - 21; 2nd: Taranaki - 18; 3rd: Counties-Manukau - 17; 4th: Waikato - 14; 5th: Canterbury - 12; 6th: South Otago - 8.

TARANAKI Vs HAWKE'S BAY - IN PALM.NTH - 13/14 FEBRUARY - for the "White Eagle" Trophy
After a gap of three years the "White Eagle" Trophy is back in Taranaki to take a prominent place in the trophy cabinet, again!. This annual intercentre fixture with Hawke's Bay was played out in difficult and very windy conditions in Palmerston Nth -this weekend.
This was a very successful event for the team as a whole and for the Senior and Development Men's Teams; as well as very competitive results from both of our women's teams. The Women's Senior team results were marked by a surprising return of only 1 win from 6 games on Day 1, enhanced by a very much improved 5 wins and a draw from the 7 matches on Day 2. [Sounds as though a very effective Graham Henry type 'halftime speech' from the selectors must have had the desired effect.]
Results were as follows:
SENIOR MEN: Taranaki 20 pts +86 diff; Hawke's Bay 6 pts -86 diff.
DEVELOPMENT MEN: Taranaki 16 pts +5 diff; Hawke's Bay 10 pts -5 diff.
SENIOR WOMEN: Taranaki 13 pts +6 diff; Hawke's Bay 13 pts -6 diff.
DEVELOPMENT WOMEN: Taranaki 12 pts -33 diff; Hawke's Bay 14 pts +33 diff.
OVERALL - WINNING CENTRE: Taranaki 61 pts +64 diff; Hawke's Bay 43 pts -64 diff.
