Taranaki is one of New Zealand’s longest established Bowling Centres; with eleven (11), currently, of it’s oldest member Clubs having achieved a century of years [ New Plymouth est.1885; Patea est.1886 (presently in recess); Hawera est.1895; Manaia est.1899; Pihama est. 1899; Stratford_Avon est.1900; Fitzroy est 1903; Opunake est.1903; Inglewood est. 1905; Waitara est.1907 and West End[NP] 2010].

Geographically the Centre comprises 28 clubs situated between Awakino in the North and Alton and Patea in the South and includes New Plymouth, Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford, Hawera and the western [“Surf Highway 45”] coastal area from Oakura to Opunake. The Taranaki province - recognized for the key roles it plays in New Zealand’s Dairying and Energy industries - is also well known for the professional, occupational, lifestyle, sporting and recreational options and opportunities it can offer.

The Centre boasts many previous N.Z. champions, representatives and titleholders among its ranks and its annual Men’s Open Fours tournament - now also over 100 years old - held in January, each year, continues to be the biggest, most valued and best supported event of its type in New Zealand.
